What is witchcraft?
There are many definitions of what a witch or witchcraft? ask 3 different people that are not pagans and you will receive three different answers. witchcraft is discussed, including that witches Celabrate the Sabbat  and sacrificed babies to the Devil, renounced the Christian faith, and engaged in orgies.  from the anthropological approach, a witch is a sorcerer,  from the historical approach, a witch is a Satanist, from modern definition, a witch worships ancient gods and practices magic. The point is Witchcraft means many different things to Different people. In general witchcraft is the magical manipulation of the supernormal forces through the use of spells, signs and Sigils for the conjuring or invoking of spirits.To assist in sorcery.  sorcery is the activity of trying to cause change toward a desired end through symbolic means and of using the forces of Nature as a primary Tool and the elements of its practice vary from one system or culture to another. There is no Black or white Witchcraft While the term "witchcraft" can have positive or negative connotations depending on cultural context most contemporary people who self-identify as witches see it as beneficent and morally positive, and yes There are those who seek nothing but to do Harm.but that is not who we ARE. My definitions is This: A True Witch Is Neither Good Nor Evil But neutral like nature, and her/his knowledge should be that of both aspects of good and evil as identified by society huh- you might say here it is put very Simple

The history of witchcraft is as old as the History of humanity itself
Archeological discoveries have revealed that people worshipped hunter god and fertility goddess during the Paleolithic period. This has been proved by the discovery of cave paintings which are estimated to be 30,000 years old These relics go to prove that witchcraft is one of the oldest religions in the world. Wiccan view of God and Goddess aspect of the supreme creative force predates thousands of years before Christianity.

Witchcraft dates back about 25,000 years, to the Paleolithic Age, where the God of Hunting and the Goddess of Fertility first appeared. Out of respect for the overwhelming power of Nature grew a belief in beings, gods, who controlled the winds, the seas, the earth and the fires.
Soon, the old ways of the common people came into conflict with a new religion that started with rulers and upper classes - Christianity.
When the Christians decided that their new ways weren't catching on fast enough, things got a lot rougher for those who were practicing the Old Religion. Christian leaders began asserting that Witches were devil worshippers and savages.

In the year 1233, Pope Gregory IX instituted the Roman Catholic tribunal known as the Inquisition in an attempt to suppress heresy. In 1320, the church (at the request of Pope John XXII) officially declared Witchcraft and the Old Religion of the Pagans as a heretical movement and a "hostile threat" to Christianity. Witches had now become heretics and the persecution against all Pagans spread like wildfire throughout Europe. (It is interesting to note that before a person can be considered a heretic, he or she must first be a Christian, and Pagans have never been Christians. They have always been Pagans.)
